Bill Layout Overview
A MEPCO electricity bill is divided into several sections. Understanding each section helps you verify the accuracy of your bill and catch any errors early.
Consumer Details Section
The top section of your bill contains your account identification:
- Reference Number (14 digits): Your unique bill identifier. Used for online bill checking and payments. Learn more →
- Customer ID (10 digits): An alternative account identifier.
- Consumer Name: The name registered for the electricity connection.
- Address: The service address where the meter is installed.
- Meter Number: The serial number of your electricity meter.
- Tariff Category: Your consumer category (e.g., A1 for residential, A2 for commercial).
- Sanctioned Load: The maximum electricity load approved for your connection, measured in kW.
Meter Readings & Units
This section shows your electricity consumption for the billing period:
- Previous Reading: The meter reading at the start of the billing period.
- Current Reading: The meter reading at the end of the billing period.
- Meter Factor: A multiplication factor applied to the difference (usually 1 for single-phase meters).
- Units Consumed: Calculated as (Current Reading − Previous Reading) × Meter Factor. This is the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) you used during the billing period.
💡 Checking Accuracy
You can verify the units consumed by physically reading your meter and comparing it with the "Current Reading" on your bill. If there is a significant discrepancy, file a complaint.
Charges Breakdown
Your bill includes several types of charges:
- Electricity Charges: The base cost calculated by applying the applicable tariff rate to your units consumed.
- Fixed Charges: A monthly fixed charge based on your tariff category and sanctioned load, charged regardless of consumption.
- Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA): A monthly adjustment that reflects changes in the cost of fuel used for power generation. This can increase or decrease your bill.
- Quarterly/Tariff Adjustment (QTA): Periodic adjustments determined by NEPRA to account for capacity and transmission costs.
- Electricity Duty (ED): A government tax on electricity consumption.
- General Sales Tax (GST): Applied to the total electricity charges.
- Income Tax: An advance income tax collected on behalf of the government. The rate differs for tax filers and non-filers.
- TV Fee: A fee collected on behalf of PTV (Pakistan Television Corporation) through electricity bills.
- FC Surcharge: Finance cost surcharge applied in some billing periods.
Total Payable Amount
The bottom section of your bill shows the final amounts:
- Current Month Charges: All charges for the current billing period.
- Arrears: Any unpaid balance from previous months.
- Payable Within Due Date: The total amount if paid before the due date.
- Payable After Due Date: The total amount including a late payment surcharge if paid after the due date.
- Due Date: The deadline for payment without surcharge.
- Last Date: The final date after which your connection may be at risk of disconnection.
⚠️ Pay Before Due Date
Always pay your bill before the printed due date to avoid the late payment surcharge. The surcharge amount is shown on your bill as the difference between the "Within Due Date" and "After Due Date" amounts.
